Log Cabin
Log Cabin (1848)
Continue north on 12th Street to 2nd Avenue, turn right walking past the Justice Center, then turn north up the alley to 1st Avenue and the Log Cabin (1848), oldest structure in Corsicana.
The log cabin of R. N. White, the first Navarro County Clerk and the first Corsicana Postmaster.
A native of South Carolina, Robert Newton White (1810-1891) moved his family to this area in 1845. One year later Navarro County was created and White was elected the first County clerk, a position he held for ten years. During that time he also served as the first Corsicana postmaster, 1849-52. A civic leader, White was instrumental in persuading railroads to build lines to the city and also helped start a Cumberland Presbyterian Church here. His first Corsicana home, a log cabin.

NEXT STOP From the front of the Log Cabin, look to the west toward 13th Street and imagine a sunny October 1929 autumn day with the excitement and activity of the Al G. Barnes Circus coming to town with an elephant named Black Diamond.
